He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 to a rich man, 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 and in awe [of God] 9 you pay him no heed. 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 And We made corn grow, 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
