He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 Yet you pay attention 5 To him you give attention. 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 And he fears, 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 exalted and purified, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 How We pour water in showers 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 And We made corn grow, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 And thick gardens, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 Mother and father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
