The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
When the sun is wrapped up [in darkness] 1 when the stars shall be thrown down, 2 When the mountains vanish (like a mirage); 3 and when she-camels big with young, about to give birth, are left untended, 4 the wild beasts are herded together, 5 And when the seas shall be filled, 6 And when the souls are paired 7 And when the female (infant) buried alive (as the pagan Arabs used to do) shall be questioned. 8 Upon what sin was she killed for. 9 and when the scrolls [of men's deeds] are unfolded, 10 when the sky is unveiled, 11 and when Hell is set ablaze, 12 when Paradise shall be brought nigh, 13 [on that Day] every human being will come to know what he has prepared [for himself]. 14 Rather, I swear by the returning 15 The planets withdrawing into themselves, 16 And the night when it departs, 17 And the Dawn as it breathes away the darkness;- 18 This is indeed the recitation of an honoured Noble Messenger. (Angel Jibreel – peace and blessings be upon him.) 19 Owner of strength, of established dignity with the Lord of the Throne. 20 obeyed, moreover trusty. 21 And (O people!) your companion is not one possessed; 22 in truth he saw him (Gabriel) on the clear horizon, 23 And Muhammad is not a withholder of [knowledge of] the unseen. 24 Nor is this the word of a stoned satan. 25 Then where are you going? 26 This is naught but an admonition unto the worlds 27 Unto whomsoever of you willeth to walk straight. 28 However, you will not be able to choose anything unless God, Lord of the Universe wills it to be so. 29
