The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ I swear by yonder city 1 this city wherein you have been rendered violable– 2 And the parent and the offspring, 3 That We created man in toil and trouble. 4 Does he think that no one has power over him? 5 saying, 'I have consumed wealth abundant'? 6 Does he think that no one has seen him? 7 Have We not made for him two eyes 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 And did We not guide him to the two elevated things? 10 But he would not try to ascend the steep uphill road... 11 and what shall teach thee what is the steep? 12 The freeing of a slave! 13 Or the giving of food in a day of hunger 14 to an orphaned relative 15 Or some poor wretch in misery, 16 and being, withal, of those who have attained to faith, and who enjoin upon one another patience in adversity, and enjoin upon one another compassion. 17 They are those on the Right Hand (the dwellers of Paradise), 18 But they who disbelieved in Our signs - those are the companions of the left. 19 and the Fire will close in on them. 20
Allah the Almighty always says the truth.
