The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ I CALL THIS earth to witness -- 1 and thou art a lodger in this land; 2 And the begetter and that which he begat, 3 Assuredly We have created man in trouble. 4 Does he think that never will anyone overcome him? 5 He saith: I have wasted riches plenteous. 6 Does he think that none has observed him? 7 Did We not assign unto him two eyes 8 a tongue, and two lips, 9 And did We not show him the two highroads (of good and evil)? 10 But he did not venture to scale the difficult steep. 11 And what can make you know what is [breaking through] the difficult pass? 12 (It is) to free a slave, 13 Or the giving of food in a day of privation 14 To the orphan with claims of relationship, 15 or some needy person in distress, 16 Then he is of those who believe and charge one another to show patience, and charge one another to show compassion. 17 These are the people of the right. 18 whereas those who are bent on denying the truth of Our messages - they are such as have lost themselves in evil, 19 The Fire will be shut over them (i.e. they will be enveloped by the Fire without any opening or window or outlet. 20
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
