The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
I CALL THE night to witness when it covers over, 1 by the day when it appears radiant, 2 And Him Who hath created male and female, 3 you strive in various ways. 4 Then as for him who giveths and feareth Him. 5 for those who spend for the cause of God, 6 observe piety, and believe in receiving rewards from God. 7 But he who does not give and is unconcerned, 8 And rejects the best, 9 for him shall We make easy the path towards hardship: 10 His wealth will not avail him when he falls into ruin. 11 Verify on us is the guidance 12 And to Us belong the End and the Beginning. 13 Now I have warned you of a Fire that flames, 14 None shall enter it but the most unhappy, 15 Who gives the lie (to the truth) and turns (his) back. 16 But those most devoted to Allah shall be removed far from it,- 17 Who giveth his wealth that he may grow (in goodness). 18 and owes no favour to anyone, which is to be repaid, 19 Except only the desire to seek the Countenance of his Lord, the Most High; 20 He will surely be well-pleased (with him). 21

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
