The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night when it covers the day, 1 And by the day as it appears in brightness; 2 And by oath of the One Who created the male and the female. 3 Indeed your efforts differ. 4 Thus, as for him who gives [to others] and is conscious of God, 5 and believes in the truth of what is right, 6 We shall ease the way of fortune for him. 7 But as for he who withholds and considers himself free of need 8 and rejects what is right, 9 For him We shall ease the way of adversity, 10 And what will his wealth avail him when he falls? 11 Indeed, Guidance is Ours, 12 And most surely Ours is the hereafter and the former. 13 I therefore warn you of the fire that is ablaze. 14 None except the most wicked will enter it. 15 Who denies and turns away. 16 Far removed from it will be the righteous 17 He who spends his wealth for increase in self-purification, 18 not as payment for favours received, 19 He desires only to please his Lord, the Supreme. 20 And he shall soon be well-pleased. 21
