In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Recite thou in the name of thy Lord Who hath created 1 He created man from a clot. 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Bountiful One 3 He Who taught (the use of) the pen,- 4 taught man what he did not know! 5 Despite this, the human being still tends to rebel 6 As he bethinkest himself selfsufficient. 7 for, behold, unto thy Sustainer all must return. 8 Have you seen the one who forbids 9 A servant when he prays? 10 What is your opinion – if he were upon guidance, 11 and enjoins piety? 12 Have you considered if he gives the lie to the truth and turns (his) back? 13 Does he, then, not know that God sees [all]? 14 No indeed; surely, if he gives not over, We shall seize him by the forelock, 15 by the lying forelock steeped in sin. 16 Then, let him call upon his council (of helpers), 17 [the while] We shall summon the forces of heavenly chastisement! 18 By no means! Obey not thou him. Continue to adore, and continue to draw nigh. ۩ 19
