And We did certainly create man out of clay from an altered black mud. 26 And the jinn We created before, of intensely hot fire. 27 And (remember) when your Lord said to the angels: "I am going to create a man (Adam) from sounding clay of altered black smooth mud. 28 and when I have formed him fully and breathed into him of My spirit, fall down before him in prostration! 29 then the angels all prostrated themselves together. 30 But Satan did not; he refused to join those who prostrated themselves. 31 "How is it, O Iblis," said (the Lord), "you did not join those who bowed in homage?" 32 He said: "It does not behove of me to prostrate myself before a human being whom You have created out of dry ringing clay wrought from black mud." 33 [Allah] said, "Then get out of it, for indeed, you are expelled. 34 And lo! the curse shall be upon thee till the Day of Judgment. 35 Said [Iblis]: "Then, O my Sustainer, grant me a respite till the Day when all shall be raised from the dead!" 36 He said, "You are granted respite 37 Till the Day of the Time known. 38 "O my Lord," he said, "since You have led me into error I'll beguile them with the pleasures of the world and lead them astray, 39 "Except Thy servants among them, sincere and purified (by Thy Grace)." 40 [Allah] said, "This is a path [of return] to Me [that is] straight. 41 No power shall you have over (all) My creatures except those who fall into error and follow you, 42 And indeed, Hell is the promised place for them all. 43 It has seven gates, and through each gate a portion of them belong. 44
