The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When there happeneth the Event. 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 It will bring low (some); (and others) it will exalt; 3 When the earth is shaken with a shock 4 and the mountains are totally shattered and crumble to pieces 5 Turned to dust, floating in the air, 6 On that day, you (mankind) will be divided into three groups: 7 The People on the Right: and how fortunate will be the People on the Right! 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 They shall be near-stationed (to their Lord), 11 They will dwell in the Gardens of Bliss: 12 A number of the earlier peoples, 13 and only a few of them from the later generations. 14 Seated on couches wrought in gold and encrusted with precious stones, 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 There will circulate among them young boys made eternal 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 Their heads shall not ache with it, nor shall they lose their senses. 19 And fruit that they prefer 20 and the meat of any bird that they may desire; 21 And wide eyed houris 22 The likes unto pearls hidden. 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 No Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk) will they hear therein, nor any sinful speech (like backbiting, etc.). 25 Only a saying: "Peace, peace." 26 As for the people of the right hand, how happy they will be! 27 They shall be in the midst of thornless lote trees, 28 and flower-clad acacias, 29 And in everlasting shade. 30 and waters gushing, 31 and an abundance of fruits, 32 Neither limited [to season] nor forbidden, 33 And exalted thrones. 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 And have made them virgins. 36 full of love, well-matched 37 All this will be for the People on the Right; 38
