Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the break of Day 1 by the Ten Nights, 2 by the even and the odd, 3 And by the Night when it passeth away;- 4 Is there in this an oath for one endowed with understanding? 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with 'Aad - 6 the people of Iram, the city of many pillars, 7 the like of which was never created in the countries? 8 And (with) Thamud (people), who cut (hewed) out rocks in the valley (to make dwellings)? 9 and Pharaoh, he of the tent-pegs, 10 led rebellious lives, 11 and exceeded in corruption therein. 12 (Therefore) your Lord let loose upon them a scourge of punishment; 13 Indeed, your Lord is in observation. 14 As for the human being, when his Lord tests him, honors him, and grants him bounty, he says, "God has honored me". 15 But whenever He trieth him by straitening his means of life, he saith: My Lord despiseth me. 16 No indeed, but you show no kindness to the orphan, 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the needy. 18 And you devour (others') inheritance greedily, 19 and you ardently love wealth. 20 Most certainly – when the earth is smashed and blown to bits. 21 And your Lord comes with the angels in rows, 22 And brought [within view], that Day, is Hell - that Day, man will remember, but what good to him will be the remembrance? 23 He will say: 'Would that I had forwarded (good works) for my life!' 24 But on that day shall no one chastise with (anything like) His chastisement, 25 And no one binds like He does! 26 O thou peaceful soul! 27 return to your Lord wellpleased, wellpleasing. 28 Join My servants. 29 And enter into My garden. 30
