He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 Yet you pay attention 5 to a rich man, 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 These verses are a reminder 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 exalted and purified, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
