۞ [The angels will be ordered], "Gather those who committed wrong, their kinds, and what they used to worship 22 besides God, and show them the way of hell. 23 "But stop them, verily they are to be questioned. 24 “What is the matter with you, that you do not help one another?” 25 No indeed; but today they resign themselves in submission 26 They will then turn towards each other (and start wrangling). 27 They shall say: Surely you used to come to us from the right side. 28 Those say, 'No; on the contrary, you were not believers; 29 We had no power over you, but ye were wayward folk. 30 So the word of our Lord has come into effect upon us; indeed, we will taste [punishment]. 31 We seduced you astray; verily we were ourselves the seduced ones. 32 Therefore, on that Day they will all share Our punishment. 33 Indeed, that is how We deal with the criminals. 34 Verily when it was said unto them: there is no god but Allah, they ever grew stiff-necked. 35 And they said: are we going to abandon our gods on account of a poet distracted? 36 Nay, but he brought the Truth, and he confirmed those sent (before him). 37 you shall surely taste the painful punishment, 38 And ye shall be required not except for that which ye have been doing; 39 But the bondmen of Allah, the sincere ones 40 For them awaits a known provision, 41 and fruits while they are honored. 42 in the Gardens of Bliss. 43 seated on couches, facing one another. 44 A bowl shall be made to go round them from water running out of springs, 45 Clear, delicious to drink, 46 Neither dulling the senses nor intoxicating, 47 And with them shall be damsels of refraining looks, large-eyed 48 who are as chaste as sheltered eggs. 49 They will turn to one another with questions: 50 A speaker of them will say: "Verily, I had a companion (in the world), 51 who used to ask, 'Do you really believe that 52 That when we have died and become dust and bones, we will indeed be recompensed?'" 53 Then he will say, "Shall we look for him?" 54 Then he looks, and sees him in the midst of Hell. 55 He will say, "By Allah, you almost ruined me. 56 for had it not been for my Sustainer's favour, I would surely be [now] among those who are given over [to suffering]! 57 He will ask his companion, "Did you not say that there would only be one death 58 [again,] beyond our previous death, and that we shall never [again] be made to suffer? 59 Verily this is the supreme achievement! 60 for the like of this let the workers work.' 61 Is such [a paradise] the better welcome - or the [hellish] tree of deadly fruit? 62 Which We have reserved as punishment for evil-doers? 63 Lo! it is a tree that springeth in the heart of hell. 64 The shoots of its fruit-stalks are like the heads of Shayatin (devils); 65 They will eat and fill their bellies with it, 66 Then after it, indeed for them is the drink of boiling hot water. 67 then surely they shall return to Hell. 68 Surely they found their fathers going astray, 69 and they run in their footsteps. 70 And indeed most of the men of old went astray before them; 71 though We had sent warners among them. 72 Observe, then, what was the end of those that had been warned, 73 except the sincere worshipers of Allah. 74
