Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Ha, Meem. 1 By the Clear Book. 2 Verily We have sent it down on a blessed night, verily We were to become warners. 3 (We revealed it on the Night) wherein every matter is wisely determined 4 A command from Us; surely We are the senders (of apostles), 5 as a Mercy from your Lord. Surely He is All-Hearing, All-Seeing, 6 Lord of the heavens and earth, and all that between them is if you have faith. 7 there is no deity save Him: It is He who gives both life and death -- He is your Lord, and the Lord of your forefathers, 8 Nay, but they play in doubt. 9 Then watch for the Day when the sky will bring a visible smoke. 10 Which will envelop the people; this is a painful punishment. 11 Lord, remove this torment from us for we are believers". 12 How could this punishment bring them to their senses when a Messenger evidently had come to them, 13 Then they turned away from him and said, "[He was] taught [and is] a madman." 14 We are removing the punishment a little, but you revert. 15 The Day when We shall seize them with a mighty seizing, that will be the Day on which We shall inflict upon you full retribution. 16 ۞ We did, before them, try the people of Pharaoh: there came to them a messenger most honourable, 17 Saying: Deliver to me the servants of Allah, surely I am a faithful apostle to you, 18 And that do not exalt yourselves against Allah, surely I will bring to you a clear authority: 19 And lo! I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord lest ye stone me to death. 20 And if you do not believe me, then leave me' 21 (But they were aggressive:) then he cried to his Lord: "These are indeed a people given to sin." 22 (The reply came:) "March forth with My Servants by night: for ye are sure to be pursued. 23 "And leave the sea as a furrow (divided): for they are a host (destined) to be drowned." 24 How much they left behind of gardens and springs 25 And green crops (fields etc.) and goodly places, 26 And favours amongst which they were rejoicing! 27 That is what We did; and We made another nation their heirs. 28 Neither did the heavens weep for them, nor the earth, nor were they granted respite. 29
