۞ (And it is said unto the angels): Assemble those who did wrong, together with their wives and what they used to worship 22 "Besides Allah, and lead them to the Way to the (Fierce) Fire! 23 And stop them, for they must be questioned. 24 What aileth you that ye help not one another? 25 Indeed, today they are surrendering themselves completely.” 26 And some of them will confront the others, 27 They say: Lo! ye used to come unto us, imposing, (swearing that ye spoke the truth). 28 They will reply: "Nay, you yourselves were not believers. 29 We had no power over you. In fact, you were a people rebellious. 30 The statement of Our Lord is realized against us, and we are tasting it, 31 And we led you to deviation; indeed, we were deviators." 32 On that Day they will all share the punishment: 33 Verily, thus shall We deal with all who were lost in sin: 34 for when it was said to them, 'There is no god but God,' they were ever waxing proud, 35 And say: "What! shall we give up our gods for the sake of a Poet possessed?" 36 Aye! he hath come with the truth, and he confesseth to the sent ones. 37 Verily, you (pagans of Makkah) are going to taste the painful torment; 38 but you shall not be recompensed except for what you were doing. 39 But Allah's chosen servants (shall be spared this woeful end). 40 For them there is a known provision, 41 fruits -- and they high-honoured 42 in gardens of bliss, 43 facing one another [in love] upon thrones of happiness. 44 A cup from a gushing spring is brought round for them, 45 White, delicious to the drinkers, 46 Neither dulling the senses nor intoxicating, 47 And with them are those who do not set gaze upon men except their husbands, the maidens with gorgeous eyes. 48 As if they were eggs carefully protected. 49 Then one turned to the other in an enquiry. 50 Said one of the speakers: "I had a friend 51 “Who used to tell me, ‘Do you believe it is true?’ – 52 "'When we die and become dust and bones, shall we indeed receive rewards and punishments?'" 53 (The man) said: "Will you look down?" 54 Then, he will look and see him in the midst of Hell. 55 He said, “By Allah, you had nearly ruined me!” 56 “And were it not for the munificence of my Lord, I too would have been seized and brought forth (captive)!” 57 "Is it (the case) that we shall not die, 58 [again,] beyond our previous death, and that we shall never [again] be made to suffer? 59 Most surely this is the mighty achievement. 60 for which one must strive hard. 61 Is this better as an entertainment or the tree of Zaqqum? 62 Lo! We have appointed it a torment for wrong-doers. 63 It is a tree that grows in the nethermost part of Hell. 64 Its fruit like the heads of demons. 65 Truly they will eat thereof and fill their bellies therewith. 66 Then on top of that they will be given a mixture made of boiling water. 67 Then indeed, their return will be to the Hellfire. 68 Verily, they found their fathers on the wrong path; 69 So they hastily follow their footsteps! 70 yet before them most of the ancients went astray, 71 And indeed We sent among them warners (Messengers); 72 Look, then how was the end of those who had been warned, 73 Except the chosen bondmen of Allah. 74
