The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the Mount 1 and the Book inscribed 2 on unrolled parchment, 3 by the much-frequented House, 4 by the elevated canopy; 5 and by the swelling ocean, 6 the torment of your Lord will inevitably take place 7 No one can avert it. 8 On the day when the heavens will swiftly fly 9 and the mountains shudder and shake. 10 So on that day, ruin is for those who deny. 11 Those who are playing in pursuits. 12 On that Day when they shall be pitched into the Fire of Gehenna (Hell), 13 This is the fire which you used to give the lie to. 14 Is this magic, or do you not see? 15 Roast in it, bear it with or without patience, it is the same, you are only being recompensed for that which you used to do' 16 Indeed, the righteous will be in gardens and pleasure, 17 rejoicing in all their Lord has given them, and their Lord will guard them against the punishment of Hell. 18 Eat and drink pleasantly for what you did, 19 They will recline (with ease) on thrones arranged in ranks. And We shall marry them to Houris (female, fair ones) with wide lovely eyes. 20 And those who believe and whose progeny follow them in belief. We shall cause their progeny to join them, and We shall not diminish unto them aught of their own work. Every man is for that which he hath earned a pledge. 21 We shall give them fruits and meats, and what they desire. 22 In it, they accept cups from each other, in which is neither any lewdness nor any sin. 23 ۞ There will circulate among them [servant] boys [especially] for them, as if they were pearls well-protected. 24 They will ask each other questions, 25 They will say, "Indeed, we were previously among our people fearful [of displeasing Allah]. 26 God has been gracious to us and has saved us from the torment of Hell's intense heat -- 27 Verily, we did invoke Him [alone] ere this: [and now He has shown us] that He alone is truly benign, a true dispenser of grace!" 28
