Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Has there reached you the report of the Overwhelming [event]? 1 Some faces will on that Day be downcast, 2 toiling [under burdens of sin,] worn out [by fear,] 3 about to enter a glowing fire, 4 given to drink from a boiling spring. 5 no food for them but cactus thorn 6 which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 (Other) faces, that Day, will be joyful, 8 and pleased with the result of their deeds in the past. 9 They will be in a lofty Garden 10 Wherein you shall not hear vain talk. 11 Therein will be a flowing spring, 12 raised couches, 13 And drinking-cups ready placed, 14 And cushions lined up 15 And linen spread out. 16 Will they not regard the camels, how they are created? 17 And the heaven, how it is reared aloft, 18 And the mountains: how they were fixed? 19 and how the earth is spread out? 20 (Muhammad), preach; you are only a preacher. 21 You are not a dictator over them. 22 However, he who turns away and disbelieves - 23 Allah will chastise him with the most terrible chastisement. 24 for behold, unto Us will be their return, 25 In Our hands are their accounts. 26
