The Spoils of War (Al-Anfaal)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ They ask you concerning the spoils of war? Tell them: 'The spoils of war belong to Allah and the Messenger. So fear Allah, and set things right between you, and obey Allah and His Messenger if you are true believers. 1 true believers are those whose hearts tremble with awe at the mention of God, and whose faith grows stronger as they listen to His revelations. They are those who put their trust in their Lord, 2 who establish Prayer and spend out of what We have provided them. 3 Those: it is they who are the true believers. For them are degrees with their Lord and forgiveness and a provision honourable. 4 (Now with regard to the spoils the same situation exists as when) your Lord brought you forth from your home in a righteous cause while a party among the believers were much averse to it. 5 Disputing with you regarding the truth after it had been made clear, as if they were being herded towards a visible death. 6 Behold! Allah promised you one of the two (enemy) parties, that it should be yours: Ye wished that the one unarmed should be yours, but Allah willed to justify the Truth according to His words and to cut off the roots of the Unbelievers;- 7 that He might prove the truth to be true and the false to be false, however averse the evil-doers might be to it. 8 When you (Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) were seeking the help of your Lord, so He answered your prayers that, “I will help you with a row of thousands of angels.” 9 God has sent this glad news to comfort your hearts. Victory is in the hands of God alone. God is Majestic and All-wise. 10
