The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
There hath asked an asker for the torment about to befall. 1 (a chastisement meant) for the unbelievers, one which none can avert; 2 From Allah, Owner of the ascending steps. 3 To whom the angels and the soul take a day to ascend, whose length is fifty thousand years. 4 Wherefore be thou patient with a becoming patience. 5 They see it [the Day of Judgement] to be far off, 6 but, We see it as near! 7 Upon the day when heaven shall be as molten copper 8 And the mountains will be like wool, 9 And not a friend shall ask a friend, 10 Though they will be put in sight of each other,- the sinner's desire will be: Would that he could redeem himself from the Penalty of that Day by (sacrificing) his children, 11 And his wife and his brother 12 his kin who sheltered him, 13 and whosoever is in the earth, all together, so that then it might deliver him. 14 No! Indeed, it is the Flame [of Hell], 15 That would skin the scalp. 16 It calls out to him who reverted and turned away. 17 And amasses (wealth) then shuts it up. 18 ۞ Verily man is formed impatient. 19 Being greatly grieved when evil afflicts him 20 but when they are fortunate, they become niggardly 21 save those that pray 22 Those who remain constant in their Salat (prayers); 23 And those in whose wealth exists a recognised right, 24 For the petitioner and the deprived - 25 who confirm the Day of Doom 26 and fear the chastisement of their Lord – 27 (from their Lord's chastisement none feels secure) 28 who guard their privates 29 Save with their wives and those whom their right hands possess, for thus they are not blameworthy; 30 but any who seeks to go beyond that, it is indeed they who are the transgressors, 31 And those who protect the property entrusted to them, and their agreements. 32 And those who stand firm in their testimonies. 33 And those who [carefully] maintain their prayer: 34 Those shall dwell in Gardens, honoured. 35
