He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 For him who does not care, 5 you attend to him, 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 These verses are a reminder 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 And thick gardens, 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
