Said the Council of the people of Pharaoh, 'Surely this man is a cunning sorcerer 109 He would drive you forth from your land; so what is it that ye enjoin? 110 They said, "Postpone [the matter of] him and his brother and send among the cities gatherers 111 And bring up to thee all (our) sorcerers well-versed." 112 And the sorcerers came to Pharaoh, saying, 'We shall surely have a wage, if we should be the victors?' 113 He said, “Yes, and you will then become close to me.” 114 They said: 'Moses, will you throw first or shall we be the throwers' 115 He said: Throw! And when they threw they cast a spell upon the people's eyes, and overawed them, and produced a mighty spell. 116 And [then] We inspired Moses, "Throw down thy staff!" - and lo! it swallowed up all their deceptions: 117 ۞ Thus the truth was upheld, and the falsehood that they practised was exposed. 118 Thus they were vanquished there, and they went back abased. 119 And down fell the sorcerers, prostrating themselves 120 Saying: "We believe in the Lord of the Worlds,- 121 The Lord of Moses and Aaron." 122 Said Pharaoh: "Believe ye in Him before I give you permission? Surely this is a trick which ye have planned in the city to drive out its people: but soon shall ye know (the consequences). 123 Surely I will cut off your hands and feet on the opposite sides and thereafter I will crucify you all. 124 They answered: "Verily, unto our Sustainer do we turn 125 And you do not resent us except because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us. Our Lord, pour upon us patience and let us die as Muslims [in submission to You]." 126
