The Thamud (people) rejected the messengers. 141 Their brother Salih said to them: 'Will you not be cautious? 142 Surely I am a faithful apostle to you 143 so fear God and obey me. 144 "No reward do I ask of you for it (my Message of Islamic Monotheism), my reward is only from the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists). 145 “Will you be left peacefully in these favours over here?” 146 In gardens and springs. 147 And corn-fields and palm-trees whereof the spathes are fine? 148 You hew dwellings in mountains and exult in that. 149 "Be, then, conscious of God, and pay heed unto me, 150 Do not follow those who are extravagant, 151 who do corruption in the earth, and set not things aright.' 152 They replied: 'Surely, you are one of those bewitched. 153 "Thou art no more than a mortal like us: then bring us a Sign, if thou tellest the truth!" 154 He said: 'Here is a shecamel. She shall have her share of water as you have yours on an appointed day. 155 Do not treat her unkindly or the punishment of a grievous day will fall on you." 156 But they hamstrung her; and on the morrow were repentant, 157 and the chastisement seized them. Surely in that is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 158 And lo! thy Lord! He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 159
