The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 arise, and warn! 2 Thy Lord magnify 3 And thy garments keep free from stain! 4 And pollution shun. 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 and persevere for your Lord's sake. 7 Then when the horn shall be blown, 8 that day will be a harsh day, 9 For the unbelievers, anything but easy. 10 Leave Me Alone (to deal) with whom I created Alone (without any means, i.e. Al-Walid bin Al-Mughirah Al-Makhzumi)! 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 and sons that stand in witness. 13 and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), 14 And yet he desires that I should add more! 15 By no means! surely he offers opposition to Our communications. 16 I shall force him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 Surely he reflected and guessed, 18 and woe to him; how he plotted! 19 Again, death seized him, how was his determining! 20 He then dared to lift his gaze. 21 then he frowned and scowled, 22 then he retreated, and waxed proud. 23 and said, "This is nothing but sorcery from the ancients. 24 this is nothing but the word of a mere mortal!” 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It neither leaves, nor spares. 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 Over it are nineteen keepers. 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
