The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Arise and deliver thy warning! 2 and magnify the glory of your Lord, 3 And keep your clothes clean. 4 And pollution shun. 5 And do not confer favor to acquire more 6 But for your Lord be patient. 7 When the Horn is blown, 8 that shall be a Harsh Day 9 for the unbelievers not easy. 10 LEAVE Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 And made (life) smooth for him. 14 yet he is eager that I increase him. 15 Not at all! Surely, he has been disobedient to Our verses. 16 We shall make him suffer the torment of hell without relief. 17 Indeed, he thought and deliberated. 18 Perish he! How maliciously he devised! 19 yea, he destroys himself, the way he meditates! 20 Then he beheld, 21 Then frowned he and showed displeasure. 22 then he retreated and grew proud 23 Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old; 24 Naught is this but the word of Man. 25 Soon I will cast him into hell. 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It does not allow anyone to live, and neither does it leave anyone to die; 28 scorching the flesh; 29 Over it are nineteen keepers. 30 And We have set none but angels as guardians of the Fire, and We have fixed their number (19) only as a trial for the disbelievers, in order that the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) may arrive at a certainty [that this Quran is the truth as it agrees with their Books i.e. their number (19) is written in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and the believers may increase in Faith (as this Quran is the truth) and that no doubts may be left for the people of the Scripture and the believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) and the disbelievers may say: "What Allah intends by this (curious) example?" Thus Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none can know the hosts of your Lord but He. And this (Hell) is nothing else than a (warning) reminder to mankind. 31
