Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Nay! I swear by this city 1 And thou shalt be allowed in yonder city 2 And the begetter and whom he begot. 3 Verily We have created man into toil and hardship. 4 Thinks he that none can overcome him? 5 He says, "I have spent wealth in abundance." 6 Thinketh he that none beholdeth him? 7 Have We not made for him two eyes 8 and a tongue and two lips? 9 and guided him on the two paths (of good and evil)? 10 Yet he attempteth not the steep, 11 Would that you knew what Aqaba is! 12 (It is) to free a slave, 13 Or feeding on a day of severe hunger 14 of an orphaned relative 15 and downtrodden destitute person, (so that he would be of) 16 Then will he be of those who believe, and enjoin patience, (constancy, and self-restraint), and enjoin deeds of kindness and compassion. 17 Those who do so are the people of the right hand, 18 And those who disbelieve Our signs - they are the fellows of the lefthand. 19 Upon them shall be a Fire that will hem them in. 20
