He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 to a rich man, 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 and who has fear of God, 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 noble and pious. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 his consort, his sons, 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
