The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Of what do they ask one another? 1 (Is it) of the great announcement 2 Regarding which they hold different views. 3 No! They are going to know. 4 They will indeed come to know soon. 5 Have We not made the earth an expanse, 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 We created you in pairs, 8 And made your sleep a rest. 9 And have appointed the night as a cloak, 10 And have made the day for livelihood. 11 And constructed above you seven strong [heavens] 12 And We have set therein lamps glowing. 13 From the rain clouds We send waters pouring down in abundance, 14 so that We may bring forth thereby grain and a variety of plants, 15 And dense gardens. 16 Verily the Day of Sorting out is a thing appointed, 17 the Day when the trumpet [of resurrection] is sounded and you all come forward in multitudes; 18 and when the skies are opened and become [as wide-flung] gates; 19 And the mountains will have been removed away, and they will have become as mirage. 20 [On that Day,] verily, hell will lie in wait [for those who deny the truth] 21 The destination of the rebellious. 22 therein they shall abide for ages, 23 tasting therein neither coolness nor any drink 24 But boiling and intensely cold water, 25 Requital corresponding. 26 They indeed hoped not for a reckoning, 27 having given the lie to Our messages one and all: 28 and everything We have numbered in a Book. 29 So taste (the fruit of your deeds). We shall only increase your torment. 30
