The people of 'Ad, too, rejected the messengers. 123 When their fellowman Hud said to them, “Do you not fear?” 124 I am a trustworthy messenger for you: 125 so fear you God, and obey you me. 126 I do not ask for any payment for my preaching. I shall receive my reward from the Lord of the Universe. 127 “What! You build a structure on every height, to laugh at the passers-by?” 128 And take for yourselves palaces and fortresses that you might abide eternally? 129 When you assault, you assault like tyrants. 130 So fear Allah, and obey me. 131 "Yea, fear Him Who has bestowed on you freely all that ye know. 132 succoured you with flocks and sons, 133 And orchards and springs. 134 Indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a terrible day." 135 They said, "It is all the same to us whether you advise or are not of the advisors. 136 This is naught but a custom of the ancients; 137 and we are not going to be chastised [for adhering to it]!" 138 In this there is evidence (of the Truth), yet most of them do not have any faith. 139 And verily thy Lord? He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
