The people of 'Ad accused the messengers of lies. 123 When their brother Hud said to them: "Will you not fear Allah and obey Him? 124 Verily I am unto you an apostle trusted. 125 So fear Allah and obey me. 126 For this I ask of you no wage, for my wage falls only on the Lord of the Worlds. 127 "Will you, in your wanton folly, build [idolatrous] altars on every height, 128 and raise strong mansions as if you were to live forever? 129 "And when ye exert your strong hand, do ye do it like men of absolute power? 130 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 131 And fear Him Who hath aided you with that which ye know. 132 He has bestowed on you cattle, and sons, 133 "And with gardens and water-springs." 134 Lo! I fear for you the retribution of an awful day. 135 They said: "It is the same to us whether you preach or be not of those who preach. 136 "This is nothing but the tradition of former people." 137 And we are not going to be tormented. 138 Eventually they gave the lie to him and We destroyed them. Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 139 Surely, your Lord is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 140
