۞ (God will command the angels), "Gather together the unjust, their spouses, and what they had worshipped 22 other than Allah, and guide them to the Path of Hell! 23 "But stop them, for they must be asked: 24 'But what is the matter with you that you cannot help one another?,'" 25 No indeed; but today they resign themselves in submission 26 And some of them will confront the others, 27 (The followers will say to their leaders): “You used to come to us from the right hand.” 28 They will reply: "Nay, ye yourselves had no Faith! 29 We had no power over you. In fact, you were a people rebellious. 30 “So the Word of our Lord has proved true upon us; we will surely have to taste (the punishment).” 31 So then, [if it be true that] we have caused you to err grievously - behold, we ourselves had been lost in grievous error!" 32 So indeed they, that Day, will be sharing in the punishment. 33 Surely thus do We deal with the guilty. 34 Indeed they, when it was said to them, "There is no deity but Allah," were arrogant 35 and would say: "Shall we, then, give up our deities at the bidding of a mad poet?" 36 (They say so although) he brought the Truth and confirmed the veracity of the Messengers. 37 Ye shall indeed taste of the Grievous Penalty;- 38 Ye are requited naught save what ye did - 39 But the sincere servants of God 40 For them is a Sustenance determined, 41 Fruits (Delights); and they (shall enjoy) honour and dignity, 42 in the Gardens of Bliss 43 facing one another [in love] upon thrones of happiness. 44 Round shall be passed a cup unto them filled with limpid drink: 45 White, delicious to the drinkers, 46 causing no headiness or intoxication. 47 And with them will be mates of modest gaze, most beautiful of eye, 48 As if they were eggs carefully protected. 49 They will go to one another asking each other questions. 50 One of them will say: 'I had a companion 51 Who said: art thou of those who confess to the doctrine of Resurrection: 52 When we are dead and have become dust and bones, are we indeed going to be requited? 53 Then he will say, "Shall we look for him?" 54 And he will look and see him in the midst of the Hellfire. 55 He said: "By Allah! thou wast little short of bringing me to perdition! 56 for had it not been for my Sustainer's favour, I would surely be [now] among those who are given over [to suffering]! 57 What then, shall we not die 58 Saving our former death, and are we not to be punished? 59 Verily this is the supreme achievement! 60 For the like of this let all strive, who wish to strive. 61 Is this a better hospitality or the tree of al-Zaqqum? 62 We have made this tree a trial for the wrong-doers. 63 For it is a tree that springs out of the bottom of Hell-Fire: 64 Its crop is as it were the heads of devils 65 And verily they must eat thereof and fill their bellies therewith. 66 Then indeed, they will have after it a mixture of scalding water. 67 Then most surely their return shall be to hell. 68 These are the ones who found their fathers steeped in error, 69 so they are rushing to follow in their footsteps. 70 So had many an earlier people gone astray, 71 though We had sent among them warners. 72 Then look how was the end of those who were warned - 73 except for the chosen servants of Allah? 74
