Then the twain journeyed until when they embarked in a boat, he scuttled it. Musa said: hast thou scuttled it that thou mayest drown the people thereof? Assuredly thou hast committed a thing grievous. 71 He replied: "Did I not tell you that you will not be able to patiently bear with me?" 72 Moses said: "Do not take me to task at my forgetfulness, and do not be hard on me." 73 Then they both proceeded, till they met a boy, he (Khidr) killed him. Musa (Moses) said: "Have you killed an innocent person who had killed none? Verily, you have committed a thing "Nukra" (a great Munkar - prohibited, evil, dreadful thing)!" 74 ۞ He responded, "Did I not tell you that you will not be able to remain patient with me?" 75 Moses replied, "If I ever ask you about anything after this, do not let me accompany you. I will have given you sufficient excuse." 76 So they set out, until when they came to the people of a town, they asked its people for food, but they refused to offer them hospitality. And they found therein a wall about to collapse, so al-Khidhr restored it. [Moses] said, "If you wished, you could have taken for it a payment." 77 He answered: "This is the parting between me and thee: now will I tell thee the interpretation of (those things) over which thou wast unable to hold patience. 78 As for the ship, it belonged to certain poor men, who toiled upon the sea; and I desired to damage it, for behind them there was a king who was seizing every ship by brutal force. 79 As for the youth, his parents were believers and we feared that he would trouble them by rebellion and denial of truth. 80 "So we desired that their Lord would give them in exchange (a son) better in purity (of conduct) and closer in affection. 81 "As for the wall, it belonged to two youths, orphans, in the Town; there was, beneath it, a buried treasure, to which they were entitled: their father had been a righteous man: So thy Lord desired that they should attain their age of full strength and get out their treasure - a mercy (and favour) from thy Lord. I did it not of my own accord. Such is the interpretation of (those things) over which thou wast unable to hold patience." 82
