۞ (Then will the command be given): “Muster all the wrong-doers and their spouses and the deities whom they used to serve 22 Beside Allah, and lead them on to the path of the Flaming Fire. 23 Stop them. They must be questioned." 24 "Why help you not one another?" 25 They will submit to questioning then, 26 And they will advance toward each other mutually questioning. 27 Some [of them] will say: "Behold, you were wont to approach us [deceptively] from the right!" 28 They answer: Nay, but ye (yourselves) were not believers. 29 We had no power over you. You were a rebellious people, 30 So the sentence of our Lord has come to pass against us: (now) we shall surely taste; 31 "We led you astray: for truly we were ourselves astray." 32 And verily, on that Day they all will share in their common suffering. 33 Verily that is how We shall deal with Sinners. 34 For they, when they were told that there is no god except Allah, would puff themselves up with Pride, 35 And they used to say, “Shall we forsake our Gods upon the sayings of a mad poet?” 36 Nay! he has come with the (very) Truth, and he confirms (the Message of) the messengers (before him). 37 Now certainly you shall be tasting the painful chastisement, 38 And you shall not be rewarded except (for) what you did. 39 Except the chosen bondmen of Allah. 40 For them is the sustenance known to Us. 41 Fruits (Delights); and they (shall enjoy) honour and dignity, 42 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise), 43 On thrones, facing each other. 44 A bowl shall be made to go round them from water running out of springs, 45 clear, delightful to those who drink it: 46 there is neither sickness in it, nor intoxication. 47 And with them will be mates of modest gaze, most beautiful of eye, 48 like closely guarded pearls. 49 Then shall some of them advance to others, questioning each other. 50 A speaker among them will say, "Indeed, I had a companion [on earth] 51 "Who used to say, 'what! art thou amongst those who bear witness to the Truth (of the Message)? 52 ‘That when we are dead and have turned into dust and bones, that we will either be rewarded or punished?’ 53 (A voice) said: "Would ye like to look down?" 54 He therefore looked down and saw him amidst the blazing fire. 55 He said: "By Allah! You have nearly ruined me. 56 for had it not been for my Sustainer's favour, I would surely be [now] among those who are given over [to suffering]! 57 "Is it (the case) that we shall not die, 58 Except for our first death, and we will not be punished?" 59 Lo! this is the supreme triumph. 60 For the like of this let all strive, who wish to strive. 61 Is this not a better reward than the tree of Zaqqum 62 We have made this (tree) a trial for the evildoers. 63 It is a tree that grows from the bottom of Hell; 64 its spathes are like the heads of satans 65 Then most surely they shall eat of it and fill (their) bellies with it. 66 Then most surely they shall have after it to drink of a mixture prepared in boiling water. 67 Then most surely their return shall be to hell. 68 These are the ones who found their fathers steeped in error, 69 so they are rushing to follow in their footsteps. 70 Thus, indeed, most of the people of old went astray before them, 71 And We had already sent among them warners. 72 Look, then how was the end of those who had been warned, 73 except the sincere worshipers of Allah. 74
