Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the dawn 1 and the ten nights! 2 And [by] the even [number] and the odd 3 And the night when it departs. 4 Is there (not) in these an adjuration (or evidence) for those who understand? 5 Have you not seen what your Lord did to the 'Ad 6 Of Eram with lofty pillars (erected as signposts in the desert), 7 the like of which has never been created in the land, 8 (Also consider how He dealt with) the Thamud, who carved their houses out of the rocks in the valley. 9 And (with) Fir'aun (Pharaoh), who had pegs (who used to torture men by binding them to pegs)? 10 who all were insolent in the land 11 and brought about great corruption therein: 12 So your Lord poured on them different kinds of severe torment. 13 for, indeed, your Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 As for the human being, when his Lord tests him, honors him, and grants him bounty, he says, "God has honored me". 15 However, when his Lord tests him by a measured amount of sustenance, he says, "God has disgraced me". 16 But nay, nay, [O men, consider all that you do and fail to do:] you are not generous towards the orphan, 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And devour the inheritance devouring greedily, 19 and love the riches, loving them ardently. 20 No indeed! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 And thy Lord cometh, and His angels, rank upon rank, 22 And the Hell on that Day shall be brought nigh. On that Day man shall remember, but how will remembrance avail him? 23 He will say, “Alas – if only I had sent some good deeds ahead, during my lifetime!” 24 But on that day shall no one chastise with (anything like) His chastisement, 25 And no one binds like He does! 26 (On the other hand it will be said): “O serene soul! 27 "Come back thou to thy Lord,- well pleased (thyself), and well-pleasing unto Him! 28 "Enter you, then, among My honoured slaves, 29 "Yea, enter thou My Heaven! 30
