Mary (Maryam)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Kaf. Ha. Ya. 'Ayn. Sad. 1 The mention of thy Lord's mercy unto His servant Zachariah; 2 Behold! he cried to his Lord in secret, 3 saying: 'O my Lord, my bones are enfeebled, and my head glows silver with age. Yet, never Lord, have I been unblessed in prayer to You. 4 now I fear my kinsmen when I am gone. [I have no hope of their continuing my mission] for my wife is barren, so grant me a successor from Yourself, 5 who will be my heir and the heir of the family of Jacob. Lord, make him a person who will please you". 6 We answered his prayers with the glad news of the birth of a son by the name of John and told him, "We have never given such a name to anyone else." 7 He said: "O my Lord! How shall I have a son, when my wife is barren and I have grown quite decrepit from old age?" 8 He answered: "So shall it be." Your Lord says: "It is easy for Me," and then added: "For beyond doubt, I created you earlier when you were nothing." 9 He said: "O Lord, give me a token." "Though sound," He answered, "you will not talk to any one for three nights running." 10 So he came forth unto his people from the Sanctuary, then he made signal to them, 'Give you glory at dawn and evening.' 11 We commanded John, Zachariah's son, to follow the guidance of the Lord with due steadfastness. We gave knowledge and wisdom to John during his childhood. 12 And tenderness from Our presence and purity, and he was God-fearing. 13 And dutiful toward his parents. And he was not arrogant, rebellious. 14 Peace on him the day he was born, and the day he dieth and the day he shall be raised alive! 15
