The chiefs of Pharaoh's people said, "This is most surely a skillful magician, 109 He would drive you forth from your land; so what is it that ye enjoin? 110 They said, “Stop him and his brother, and send announcers to the cities to gather people.” 111 to summon every wellversed sorcerer to you' 112 And the sorcerers came unto Pharaoh [and] said: "Verily, we ought to have a great reward if it is we who prevail." 113 "Yes," said he, "you will be among the honoured." 114 They said: "O Moses! Either thou shalt throw [thy staff first,] or we shall [be the first to] throw." 115 He said, 'You cast.' And when they cast they put a Spell upon the people's eyes, and called forth fear of them, and produced a mighty sorcery. 116 And We revealed to Musa, saying: Cast your rod; then lo! it devoured the lies they told. 117 ۞ So the truth was proved and their works were disproved. 118 The magicians who were defeated on the spot and were proved to be worthless, 119 But the sorcerers fell down prostrate in adoration. 120 saying: 'We believe in the Lord of the Worlds, 121 The Lord of Musa and Harun. 122 Pharaoh said: Ye believe in Him before I give you leave! Lo! this is the plot that ye have plotted in the city that ye may drive its people hence. But ye shall come to know! 123 I shall cut off your hands and feet on the opposite sides, and then crucify you all.' 124 The magicians said, "We will certainly return to Our Lord. 125 You would take revenge on us only because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us.
