The people of 'Ad, too, rejected the messengers. 123 Recall, when their brother Hud said to them: "Have you no fear? 124 "Verily! I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 125 so fear you God, and obey you me. 126 I seek of you no reward for this; my reward is with none but the Lord of the Universe. 127 Build ye on every eminence a landmark in vanity? 128 And seek ye out strongholds, that haply ye may last for ever? 129 When you assault, you assault like tyrants. 130 “Therefore fear Allah, and obey me.” 131 “Fear Him Who has aided you with the things you know.” 132 "Freely has He bestowed on you cattle and sons,- 133 And gardens and fountains; 134 Verily I fear for you the torment of a Mighty Day. 135 They said, "Whether you preach to us or not, 136 "This is no other than a customary device of the ancients, 137 And we shall not be doomed. 138 In response they denied him – We therefore destroyed them; indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 139 And verily thy Lord? He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
