He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 You pay full attention, 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 and in awe of God 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 In honored books, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble and purified. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 And produce therein corn, 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 laughing and joyous 39 but others will be gloomy 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
