No, by the moon! 32 And by the Night as it retreateth, 33 And by the dawn when it brightens, 34 Lo! this is one of the greatest (portents) 35 A warning to mankind,- 36 For the one among you who wishes to come forward or stay back. 37 Every soul is mortgaged for its own deeds. 38 Except those on the right side. 39 In Gardens they will question 40 about the guilty ones: 41 'What thrusted you into Sakar?' 42 They will say: we have not been of those who prayed. 43 "Nor were we of those who fed the indigent; 44 and we plunged along with the plungers, 45 And we used to deny the Day of Recompense 46 "Until there came to us (the death) that is certain." 47 The intercession of the intercessors shall then be of no avail to them. 48 What is the matter with them that they turn away from this Reminder, 49 As they were frightened asses 50 That had fled from a lion? 51 Aye! every one of them desireth that: he should be vouchsafed scrolls expanded. 52 No indeed; but they do not fear the Hereafter. 53 Never so, as this is a reminder. 54 So whoever wills may heed advice from it. 55 And they shall not heed unless Allah willeth. He is the Lord of piety, and the Lord of forgiveness. 56
