Verily We created man of potter's clay of black mud altered, 26 while We had brought the jinn into being before out of blazing fire. 27 And (remember) when thy Lord said unto the angels: Lo! I am creating a mortal out of potter's clay of black mud altered, 28 So when I have made him complete and breathed into him of My spirit, fall down making obeisance to him. 29 All the angels prostrated themselves, 30 Except Iblis (Satan), - he refused to be among the prostrators. 31 God asked Iblis, "What made you not join the others in prostration?" 32 He said, "Never would I prostrate to a human whom You created out of clay from an altered black mud." 33 Said He, 'Then go thou forth hence; thou art accursed. 34 And indeed, upon you is the curse until the Day of Recompense." 35 Iblis prayed, "Lord, grant me respite until the Day of Judgment". 36 [Allah] said, "So indeed, you are of those reprieved 37 Till the period of the time made known. 38 (Iblis) said: "O my Lord! because Thou hast put me in the wrong, I will make (wrong) fair-seeming to them on the earth, and I will put them all in the wrong,- 39 "Except Your chosen, (guided) slaves among them." 40 [Allah] said, "This is a path [of return] to Me [that is] straight. 41 and you have no authority over My servants except the erring ones who follow you. 42 being perverse; Gehenna shall be their promised land all together. 43 It has seven gates; for every gate is of them a portion designated." 44
