The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Woe to those that deal in fraud,- 1 when they measure against the people, take full measure 2 but when they have to measure or weigh whatever they owe to others, give less than what is due! 3 Do they not think they will be raised (to life) again 4 Unto an Awful Day, 5 A Day whereon mankind shall stand before the Lord of the worlds? 6 Woe to them! Let them know that the records of the sinner's deeds are in Sijin. 7 And how would you know what the Record of the prison-house is? 8 A record [indelibly] inscribed! 9 Woe, on that Day, to those who reject, 10 Those who deny the Day of Justice. 11 None denies it but the sinful transgressors. 12 When Our verses are recited to him, he says: 'Fictitious tales of the ancients' 13 Nay! rather, what they used to do has become like rust upon their hearts. 14 Nay! most surely they shall on that day be debarred from their Lord. 15 Then they will indeed burn in Hell. 16 Then shall it be said: This is what you gave the lie to. 17 Indeed the record of the virtuous is in the highest place, the Illiyin. 18 and what shall teach thee what is Illiyun? 19 It is a Book inscribed, 20 Which is witnessed by the close ones. 21 Behold, [in the life to come] the truly virtuous will indeed be in bliss: 22 On Thrones (of Dignity) will they command a sight (of all things): 23 thou knowest in their faces the radiancy of bliss 24 They will be given pure wine to drink, which is kept preserved, sealed. 25 The seal thereof will be of musk. And to this end let the aspirers aspire 26 for it is composed of all that is most exalting 27 A fountain from which drink they who are drawn near (to Allah). 28 Behold, the wicked were wont to laugh at the believers: 29 And whenever they passed by them, used to wink one to another (in mockery); 30 and when they went back to their families, they went back jesting, 31 and when they saw them, they said [scornfully], "These men have surely gone astray," 32 Whereas they have not at all been sent as guardians over them. 33 So today those who believe shall laugh at the unbelievers; 34 as they (recline) upon their couches and gaze (around them). 35 Have the unbelievers been rewarded what they were doing? 36
