Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah)
52 verses, revealed in Mecca after Kingship (Al-Mulk) before The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ The indubitable event! 1 What is the Inevitable Reality? 2 And what will make thee realise what the Sure Reality is? 3 The Thamud and the Ad denied the (possibility of a) sudden calamity, calling it false. 4 So destroyed were the Thamud by a storm of thunder and lightning; 5 And as for 'Aad they were destroyed by a wind, furious, roaring. 6 which He let loose upon them for seven nights and eight days in succession; so that (if you had been there) you might have seen people lying prostrate, as though they were uprooted trunks of hollowed palm trees. 7 Can you see any remnant of them now? 8 Similarly, Pharaoh, and those before him, and the ruined villages, sinned 9 and rebelled against their Sustainer's apostles: and so He took them to task with a punishing grasp exceedingly severe! 10 Lo, when the waters rose, We bore you in the running ship 11 that We might make it a reminder for you and for heeding ears to hold. 12 And when the trumpet shall sound one blast 13 and the earth and the mountains are carried aloft and are crushed to bits at one stroke, 14 on that Day the Great Event will come to pass. 15 And the heaven will split [open], for that Day it is infirm. 16 and the angels will stand on the sides, with eight of them bearing aloft the Throne of your Lord on that Day. 17 On that day ye will be exposed; not a secret of you will be hidden. 18 Then as for him who is given his book in his right hand, he will say: Lo! read my book: 19 Certainly I thought that I should encounter my reckoning.' 20 So he shall have an agreeable life 21 in a lofty paradise, 22 With fruits hanging low within reach, 23 (And told:) "Eat and drink to your fill as reward for (good) deeds you had done in days of yore." 24 But as for him who is given his record in his left hand, he will say: Oh, would that I had not been given my book 25 And had not known what is my account. 26 Oh, would that this [death of mine] had been the end of me! 27 My wealth has been of no use to me. 28 “All my power has vanished.” 29 (It will be said): Take him and fetter him 30 “Then hurl him into the blazing fire.” 31 And then insert him in a chain whereof the length is seventy cubits. 32 Lo! He used not to believe in Allah the Tremendous, 33 nor were they concerned with feeding the destitute. 34 "So no friend hath he here this Day. 35 nor any food save the filth 36 that none excepting the sinners eat.' 37
