The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the sun and its noon-time brightness, 1 And by oath of the moon when it follows the sun 2 And [by] the day when it displays it 3 And [by] the night when it covers it 4 by the sky and how He built it 5 And by oath of the earth and by oath of Him Who spread it. 6 and by the soul and by Him Who perfectly proportioned it, 7 And inspired in it the knowledge of its sins and its piety. 8 Indeed he succeeds who purifies his ownself (i.e. obeys and performs all that Allah ordered, by following the true Faith of Islamic Monotheism and by doing righteous good deeds). 9 and he who suppresses it will be ruined. 10 The people of Thamud rejected (the truth) as a result of their rebelliousness 11 when the most corrupt of them incited them (to commit evil). 12 And the messenger of Allah [Salih] said to them, "[Do not harm] the she-camel of Allah or [prevent her from] her drink." 13 Then they denied him and they killed it. So their Lord destroyed them because of their sin, and made them equal in destruction (i.e. all grades of people, rich and poor, strong and weak, etc.)! 14 He does not fear the consequence. 15
