The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
When the sun shall be darkened, 1 The stars turn dim and scatter, 2 And when the mountains are driven. 3 And when the camels big with young are abandoned, 4 The wild beasts stampede on the run, 5 And when the seas are set afire. 6 When the souls are sorted out, (being joined, like with like); 7 And when the female (infant) buried alive (as the pagan Arabs used to do) shall be questioned. 8 such as, "For what crime were they murdered?" 9 And when the pages are laid open, 10 when heaven is stripped, 11 when Hell shall be set blazing, 12 when Paradise is brought near, 13 [then] each soul shall know what it has put forward. 14 Rather, I swear by the returning 15 The stars which rise and set, 16 And the close of night, 17 And by the morning when it shineth forth, 18 behold, this [divine writ] is indeed the [inspired] word of a noble apostle, 19 Full of power, well-established in position with the Lord and Master of the Throne, 20 Obeyed and worthy there of trust. 21 Your Companion is not mad, 22 And indeed he saw him on the clear horizon. 23 nor does he grudge (conveying this knowledge about) the Unseen; 24 Nor is this the word of an outcast devil. 25 When whither go ye? 26 This is certainly the guidance for all (jinn and mankind). 27 for whosoever of you would go straight, 28 but your wishing will not avail unless Allah, the Lord of the Universe, so wishes. 29
