The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 Arise and deliver thy warning! 2 And your Lord do magnify, 3 and purify your robes, 4 and defilement flee! 5 and bestow not favour in order to seek from others a greater return, 6 Exercise patience to please your Lord. 7 And when the trumpet is blown, 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 Far from easy for the disbelievers. 10 Leave Me with him whom I alone have created, 11 and whom I have granted abundant wealth 12 and sons that stand in witness. 13 And made (life) smooth for him. 14 And yet he desires that I should add more! 15 Never! For he is an enemy to Our signs! 16 I shall oblige him to (climb a slippery mountain in the Hell-fire called As-Sa'ud, or to) face a severe torment! 17 Surely he reflected and guessed, 18 Perish he! How maliciously he devised! 19 Again, ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 20 Then looked he, 21 Then frowned he and scowled. 22 Then he turned away, and was haughty. 23 And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. 26 What will let you know what the Scorching is like! 27 It leaves naught nor does it spare aught. 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 over it are nineteen. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
