The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Read! In the name of your Lord, who created: 1 Hath created man from a clot! 2 Recite: And thy Lord is the Most Generous, 3 who taught by the pen, 4 Hath taught man that which he knew not. 5 Nay! man is most surely inordinate, 6 whenever he believes himself to be self-sufficient: 7 Surely your returning is to your Lord. 8 Bethinkest thou him who forbiddeth, 9 A servant when he prays? 10 Have you thought, if he had been on guidance 11 Or had enjoined piety, (it would have been better)? 12 Bethinkest thou, if he belieth and turneth away? 13 Does he not know that Allah sees? 14 And yet indeed if he does not desist We shall drag him by the forelock, 15 his lying, sinful forelock. 16 So let him now call his gang! 17 We will call the angels of Hell. 18 No indeed! Do not obey him, but prostrate yourself and come closer to God. ۩ 19
