We sent Moses with Our signs to Pharaoh and his nobles. He said, "I am the messenger of the Lord of the Universe," 46 but when he came to them with Our signs, they ridiculed them, 47 yet there was not a sign that We showed them that was not greater than its sister, and We seized them with the punishment so that they might return. 48 And they said, "O thou sorcerer! Invoke thy Lord for us according to His covenant with thee; for we shall truly accept guidance." 49 But when We removed from them the chastisement, behold, they broke their troth. 50 And Fir'awn proclaimed among his people, saying: O my people! is not mine the dominion of Misr and witness yonder rivers flowing underneath me? See ye not? 51 Am I not better than this lowly man who can barely express himself? 52 Wherefore, then, have bracelets of gold not been set upon him, and wherefore have not angels come with him accompanying 53 He (Pharaoh) intimidated his nation, so they obeyed him, for they were a sinning nation. 54 So when they angered Us, We punished them, and drowned them all. 55 And We made them a thing past, and an example for those after (them). 56
