The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ Of what do they ask one another? 1 About the great news, (i.e. Islamic Monotheism, the Quran, which Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) brought and the Day of Resurrection, etc.), 2 on which they [so utterly] disagree. 3 Verily, they shall soon (come to) know! 4 Nay! Nay! they shall soon know. 5 Have We not made the earth an even expanse? 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 And We have created you in pairs. 8 and We appointed your sleep for a rest; 9 And have appointed the night as a cloak, 10 And made the day for livelihood 11 And built seven strong roofs above you. 12 and placed in them a blazing lamp 13 and sent down heavy rains from the clouds 14 So that We bring forth thereby corn and vegetation. 15 And gardens of entwined growth. 16 Surely the Day of Decision is an appointed time, 17 It is a Day whereon the trumpet will be blown, and ye will come in multitudes. 18 The heavens will be opened wide and turn into so many doors, 19 The mountains put in motion turning into a mirage. 20 Surely, Hell lies in wait, 21 a goal for all who are wont to transgress the bounds of what is right! 22 They will abide therein for ages, 23 They will not taste therein cool or any drink. 24 save boiling water and a stinking fluid -- 25 a meet requital [for their sins]! 26 for they never expected to be called to account, 27 And denied Our verses with [emphatic] denial. 28 but We have placed on record every single thing [of what they did]. 29 Taste therefore. We shall not increase you in aught but torment. 30
