Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ NAY! I call to witness this land 1 this land in which thou art free to dwell 2 And the begetter and whom he begot. 3 That We created man in toil and trouble. 4 Does he think that no one can overpower him? 5 And he saith: I have destroyed vast wealth: 6 Does he think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not made for him two eyes 8 and a tongue, and a pair of lips, 9 And have shown him the two ways? 10 But he has not attempted the ascent. 11 What could let you know what the height is! 12 (It is) Freeing a neck (slave, etc.) 13 And to feed in the day of hunger. 14 to an orphaned relative 15 or to a needy person in distress; 16 and to be one of those who believe and urge one another to steadfastness and compassion. 17 These are the People of the Right Hand. 18 And those who disbelieve in Our signs, they are the Companions of the Left Hand; 19 Upon them shall be a Fire that will hem them in. 20
