The Thamud belied the sent ones 141 When their brother Salih said unto them: fear ye not? 142 Verily I am unto you an apostle trusted. 143 So fear Allah, and obey me. 144 And I do not ask you any reward for it; my reward is only with the Lord of the worlds: 145 Will you be left in what is here, secure [from death], 146 "Gardens and Springs, 147 The fields of corn and date-palm trees with soft and tender spathes, 148 “And you carve out dwellings in the mountains, with skill?” 149 Have fear of God and obey me. 150 “And do not follow those who exceed the limits.” 151 Who work corruption in the land and rectify not. 152 They said: "Thou art only one of those bewitched! 153 Thou art but a human being like unto us. So bring thou a sign if thou art of the truth-tellers. 154 He said: (Behold) this she-camel. She hath the right to drink (at the well), and ye have the right to drink, (each) on an appointed day. 155 so do her no harm, or the punishment of an awful day will befall you." 156 But they hamstrung her and so became regretful. 157 And the punishment seized them. Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers. 158 And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. 159
