The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 no soul will deny its coming. 2 It will bring down [some] and raise up [others]. 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 and the mountains are shattered into [countless] shards, 5 they will become like dust scattered around. 6 On that day, you (mankind) will be divided into three groups: 7 Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 8 And (then) those on the left hand; what of those on the left hand? 9 The foremost ones (in faith and virtue) - the foremost ones in receiving their reward. 10 Who will be honoured 11 In gardens of bliss [will they dwell] 12 (a throng of the ancients 13 but only a few from the later generations. 14 On thrones woven [with ornament], 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 (and there) shall wait on them immortal youths 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 Wherefrom they get no aching of the head nor any madness, 19 Also, they will be served with the fruits of their choice 20 And flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And wide eyed houris 22 as the likeness of hidden pearls, 23 As reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear therein ill speech or commission of sin - 25 only the words of peace and tranquillity. 26 The Companions of the Right 27 mid thornless lote-trees 28 and serried acacias, 29 And a shade ever-spread. 30 and flowing water 31 and an abundance of fruits, 32 That will neither finish, nor ever be stopped. 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 Lo! We have created them a (new) creation 35 Then We have made them virgins, 36 Loving, equals in age, 37 For those on the Right Hand. 38
