When the messengers came to Lot and his family, 61 He said: Surely you are an unknown people. 62 'No' they replied: 'We bring you (news) of that concerning which they were doubting. 63 And we have come to you with truth, and indeed, we are truthful. 64 So set forth, thou with thy family, in a watch of the night, and follow after the backs of them, and let not any one of you turn round; and depart unto the place you are commanded.' 65 We informed him that the unbelievers would be utterly destroyed. 66 The people of the town rejoicingly 67 He said, 'These are my guests; put me not to shame, 68 And fear Allah and do not disgrace me." 69 They said: Have we not forbidden you from (other) people? 70 He said, "Here are my daughters, if you must act in this way." 71 By your life, [O Muhammad], indeed they were, in their intoxication, wandering blindly. 72 Then the (Awful) Cry overtook them at the sunrise. 73 and We turned it uppermost nethermost and rained on it stones of baked clay. 74 In this there is evidence (of the Truth) for the prudent ones. 75 And verily! They (the cities) were right on the highroad (from Makkah to Syria i.e. the place where the Dead Sea is now). 76 surely in this there is a sign for those who believe. 77 Certainly the dwellers in the Thicket were evildoers, 78 So, We took vengeance on them. They are both on an open highway, plain to see. 79
